B3Africa Privacy Policy
Last Update: 2018-05-29
B3Africa is a research project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 654404. The consortium consists of 11 partners from Europe and Africa. The project started on 01 July 2015 and will run until 30 September 2018.
As part of its dissemination activities, B3Africa runs a website and sends regular newsletters to its community. In the frame of these activities, personal information are processed.
What information does B3Africa collect?
Normal web site usage
In general, you can browse the B3Africa site without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. The only information we gather during general browsing is from standard server logs. These include your IP (Internet Protocol) address, domain name, browser type, operating system, and information such as the web site that referred you to us, the files you download, the pages you visit, and the dates/times of those visits.
Collection of personally identifiable information
The B3Africa Mailing List has been put together at the beginning of the project. B3Africa partners provided names and email addresses of collaborators they though would be interested in receiving news from the project. The first newsletter launched included a notification, clearly visible at the top of the newsletter, explaining that recipients were added to the list by B3Africa partners and offering the option to unsubscribe.
Additional recipients have also subscribed – and may still subscribe – to the B3Africa mailing list, through the subscription form available on the website. This form collects the following information: name, surname, email address, profession, organization, country.
What does B3Africa do with the information it collects?
Normal web site usage
The information gathered during general browsing of the B3Africa website is used to analyse trends and usage of the B3Africa site and to improve the usefulness of the site.
Personally identifiable information
B3Africa may use the personal information you provide to:
- To send you newsletters and inform you of upcoming events, publications, opportunities and other information related to biobank-based research;
- To contact you if we find or hear about a specific opportunity that may be relevant to your institution/profession/country;
- Statistical analysis: biobank-based research involves a diversity of professionals, from Information Technology experts to Scientists, Ethicists, Laboratory Technicians, etc. We aggregate and analyse data from our newsletter recipients to make sure our information reaches all categories in Europe, Africa and beyond.
This information will be kept in the B3Africa mailing list database, until the end of the project and its related reporting period (30 September 2023).
What if I don’t want to provide personal information?
Providing personal information on the B3Africa site is optional. If you choose not to provide personal information, you can still browse and use the B3Africa site, but you will not be able to carry out certain actions such as register for the newsletter.
Opting out and changing your information
The website and related databases are hosted by the Project Coordinators at the Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU). Any request related to the processing of data collected through the website may be addressed to Dr Erik Bongcam-Rudloff at Erik.bongcam@slu.se.
