The dissemination work package of the B3Africa project is organizing an Open Forum together with the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS), Stellenbosch University Biobank (NSB) and South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI), University of the Western Cape (UWC).

The forum is entitled “Biobanking, Legal and Ethical Considerations and Data Standardization & Biosecurity in Public Health Application”. The platform brings together experts in biobanking, laboratory information management s. stems (LIMS) and ELSI for debate and discussion on a range of topics, including data/information security, ethical and regulatory issues, harmonization of data standards and biosecurity in resource limited settings.

At the end of the session, biobanking stakeholders will be able to

  • Recognize the key role of international biobanking research collaboration to address contemporary global health challenges;
  • Discuss the benefits (and drawbacks) of International research collaboration.

The event promises to be very informative and will deal with pertinent issues that will accelerate and facilitate biomedical research across continents with the aim to address global health challenges.

The half day forum will be held at Stellenbosch University, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Tygerberg, Cape Town 7505, South Africa.
